Trone Statement on Eid al-Fitr

Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) released the below statement on Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan:

"I am wishing Eid Mubarak to everyone in Maryland's 6th Congressional District who is celebrating Ramadan. Many members of the Muslim community have been participating in Ramadan without their friends and family members due to the pandemic. This can be especially hard when traditionally this holiday is celebrated with loved ones. I have hope that since the vaccine is becoming more and more available, next year's Ramadan will be filled with in-person quality time with those who we hold near and dear to our hearts.

"At the same time, we must not forget that many Muslim families experience hatred, bigotry, and xenophobia every day in our country and around the world. Now is not only a time to celebrate this sacred month, but it is also a time to stand strong in support of our Muslim American friends and neighbors and reject anti-Muslim hate.

"Although Ramadan is now coming to an end, I will continue fighting to ensure that all of our constituents are protected from discrimination, and I will always work to create a more equitable America."

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans' Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
